Despite the atrocious weather, the first Wrea Green Show for 70 years attracted hundreds of visitors to the Show marquee behind The Institute on 3rd September. Organisers were delighted with the total of over 330 entries spanning 50 classes and the judges praised the high standard of exhibits. The village history exhibition also proved very popular and there was the added treat of Richard Lancaster being there with two of his albums of old pictures and post cards of Wrea Green. The Beer Festival saw a packed function room enjoying 25 different real ales, mostly from Lancashire and Cumbria. First Prize in the raffle was a painting of ‘The Village Show’, done especially for the occasion by Wrea Green artist Cathy Daniels. The Horticultural Society committee would like to thank all those who took part and everyone who braved the elements on what was a most enjoyable and successful day. Roll on 2017
